The success of Success Academy is undeniable and is unparalleled in comparison to many other public-school systems across the United States. This New York-based charter school has seen nothing but success since their inception. Success Academy was founded in 2006 by Eva Moskowitz to address the needs of low-income and minority students throughout the greater New York City region. Since being founded the Success Academy has grown to include 41 charter schools throughout the area. The success of Success Academy can be clearly seen in the numbers they produce year after year.
In comparison to public school students, scholars who attended one of Success Academy’s locations drastically excelled in areas such as state math and reading tests. Approximately 30% of New York City public school system students passed the state approved reading tests whereas 64% of scholars at Success Academy passed. The same success can be seen in the area of math as well with only 35% of public school students passing the tests and almost 95% of Success Academy students passing. In 2015, the U.S. Dept of Education awarded the Harlem Success Academy charter school 3 with a National Blue Ribbon to honor their success in closing the achievement and success gaps between student subgroups.
In public school systems across the nation, you can clearly see the lack of parent involvement as well as a struggle to implement teaching approaches that can be accepted by students with varying learning styles. These are two things that Success Academy is excelling with. By taking an approach that can be accepted by students with different learning styles and needs while involving parents at every corner attributes greatly to the success of Success Academy.
Their intensive curriculum and dedication to preparing their scholars for college and professional success from day one helps to instill a sense of success and drive within students who study at the Success Academy leading them to excel in all areas.
